A site about a comic strip from the 1970/80s. This comic
first raised my awareness of WW1. Its superbly written and illustrated.
The story is also well researched and if you read WW1 memoirs you will
recognize a few of the characters. The idea was to create an anti war,
anti hero story where Charley Bourne is just another victim of the war.
The story ran for years and covered The Somme, Verdun, Ypres right to
the end of the war and even to Russia in 1919. It actually continues with
Charleys son into WW2 but the writer changed and it never really worked. |
